Dear Adopter...Things you should know

Dear Potential Adopter:

Thank you for considering a rescued horse to fulfill your equine needs. You may be beginning a relationship with the best friend you will ever have. We ask that you take the time to consider all aspects of the committment you are about to make. No matter what circumstances bring horses to us, their lives have been disrupted . The environment, lifestyle, companions they are accustomed to, have changed just by arriving at our facility. As they settle in with us, they experience a new stability, where they can count on being fed twice a day, they can count on having access to all of the water they can drink, they can count on someone to heal their wounds, they can count on shelter from the elements, they can count on their needs being met by people who truly care about them, a horses's dream. Our goal is to find that special person who will not only meet the needs of this horse, but who will love this horse and pay, careful attention to the decisions they make for this horse , because his quality of life depends on it. When we approve of your application for adoption, we are putting our faith in your promise to care for this horse until the end of his life. We are accepting the fact that when the horse leaves us he will again have to transition into yet another new environment. We are accepting that your committment will be worth having this horse experience more changes.

We make a committment to the horse that we will make his well being a priorty when choosing an adopter. Therefore, we have every expectation that an adopter has committed to the horse for the life of the horse, not until something better comes along, not until he goes lame, not until he gets old, not until he no longer interests an adopter. It simply is not fair or moral.

As an adopter you join the ranks of people everywhere who care for animals enough to overlook their flaws when they choose to adopt. You have a clear understanding of the committments that you make. You have earned all of our respect as caring individuals and we thank you.

                                                                                                                                                                        Heart's Desire Equine Rescue, Inc.
